Dr Corine Ngufor is Executive Director of the African Institute for Research in Infectious Diseases (AIRID) and Reader in Vector Biology at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (UK). She previously served as Associate Professor of Medical Entomology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Dr Ngufor is an internationally recognised expert in malaria prevention and vector control, with a strong track record of securing and leading major research grants from the Gates Foundation, the Global Fund, USAID, UNITAID, Gavi, and industry partners. Her work spans next-generation vector control tools, perennial malaria prevention, surveillance and data quality systems, malaria vaccine delivery, and disease modelling, and has directly informed global malaria policy and implementation.
In 2019, she led the CREC-LSHTM facility, now transitioned to AIRID, to become the first OECD GLP-certified facility in West Africa; it remains the only GLP-certified facility in Benin. She is the 2022 recipient of the Greenwood Africa Award, recognising outstanding scientific achievement and leadership among African researchers in infectious diseases.
Dr Ngufor has held multiple advisory roles with the World Health Organization and currently serves as a member of the WHO Malaria Policy Advisory Group. She is also Co-Chair of the RBM Partnership to End Malaria Vector Control Working Group and a member of the Vector Control Technical Advisory Group to the Ministry of Health in Benin.
